An inaugural member of Fairleigh Dickinson University's Division I Athletics Hall of Fame, Walter Marusyn was FDU's original cross country and track and field coach. He also served the athletics department as an Assistant Director of Athletics for many years, and was a pioneer at FDU, starting the Knights' indoor and outdoor track and field programs. In his tenure as cross-country / track and field coach, Marusyn won several conference championships and led a highly competitive Knights' team in the Metropolitan Track and Field Association. Marusyn was honored by the New Jersey Track and Field Association as Coach of the Year in 1978, and also earned the New Jersey Coach Award for Service that same year. Retired in 1985, Marusyn is honored each spring by the athletics department at the Annual Athletics Award Banquet with the presentation of the Outstanding Male Athlete Award, which bears his name.
