Bob Hurley coached basketball at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, New Jersey from 1972 until 2017, building a local program into a national powerhouse along the way. Presiding over what he calls a “benevolent dictatorship,” Hurley has been more than a coach to his players; he has been a teacher, a father figure, advisor, mentor, and friend.

On August 13, 2010, he was announced as the only coach to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame that year and only the third high school coach in history to be so honored.

In 2011, Hurley became just the tenth coach in high school history to win 1000 games and is featured in the documentary The Street Stops Here.

Hurley is the father of Bobby Hurley, a former All-American point guard at Duke and the head basketball coach at Arizona State, and Dan Hurley, who since 2012 has been the head coach at the University of Rhode Island. Hurley has coached prominent former players including Kyle Anderson, Terry Dehere, Bobby and Danny Hurley and David Rivers.
