Joe Pearn is considered to be one of the greatest baseball players to ever put on a uniform at Fairleigh Dickinson.  He graduated as the school’s all-time leader in average as he hit at a remarkable .388 clip during his four years while leading the Knights to a 69-58-2 overall record.  He collected 151 hits in 389 career plate appearances.  In his career, Pearn belted over 20 home runs, stroked 29 doubles and legged out two triples.  He also scored over 100 runs and collected 108 RBI’s.  As a sophomore, he set a school record (now third all-time) with a single-season.452 batting average (42-for-94).  The mark ranked fourth nationally. Pearn also struck out seven times all season.  In his senior season, Pearn tied the FDU single-season home run record with 13 bombs and set the single-season RBI record with 60.  He also collected 10 doubles.  In his senior year, the two-year captain led the team to a 23-16-1 season which tied the program record for wins in a season.  Pearn is believed to be the first player in program history to hit over .400 in consecutive seasons as he hit .452 in 1984 and .405 in 1985.  In his career, he walked 75 times and struck out only 49 times and was a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases.  Defensively, Pearn was a staple for all three years behind the plate.  At the conclusion of his senior season, Pearn was selected as the 16th round pick of the Texas Rangers in the June draft.
