The top miler in New Jersey out of Dickinson High School in Jersey City, Phil Papa was a member of the track and field at FDU from 1968-70. He competed in the 440-meter, 880-meter, two-mile and cross-country. Papa held the 880-meter program record and established a national freshman record in the 1000-yard event at the 168th Street Armory. In 1968, he was the second-highest scorer on the team; breaking records as part of the sprint medley relay and two-mile relay teams. Papa was also part of FDU’s record-breaking distance medley relay team in 1969 and finished second on the team with 17 medals in 1970.
