One of the best fencers in program history, Ute Schaeper competed with the foil for two seasons, finishing her career as a Knight with a remarkable record of 106-9. In 1989-90 she won 95.5% of her bouts (63-3), setting a new record for single season winning percentage, a record that still stands today. Schaeper was also crowned the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Champion and the NJ State Champion in 1990, and the Temple Open Champion in 1989.

In just two seasons, she competed in two National Championships, leading the Knights to a sixth place finish, placing third individually in 1990 and placed second individually in 1991, leading the Knights to a seventh place finish.

She led her team to a 35-7 overall record in two years and for her outstanding accomplishments, Schaeper was named All-America in 1990 and 1991, was named the team's MVP in 1990 and 1991 and received the 1991 Harriet McCormick Award, given to FDU's most outstanding female athlete.
