One of the top performers on one of the top teams in program history, Jama Aden is still the Knights' record holder in the 1000-yard with a time of 2:07.50 and the 1000-meter with a time of 2:21.50. Aden is also a member of four record-setting relay teams with marks that still stand today.

In 1982 he helped the program capture an indoor IC4A team championship. Aden competed in two NCAA Indoor Championships during his career, finishing third in the 1000-meter in 1982 and in 1983 he placed sixth in the 1000-meter.

Following his collegiate career Aden went on to represent his home country of Somalia in the Olympics and competed as a member of the team at the 1984 games in Los Angeles and again in Seoul in 1988.
