The 1978 Men’s Cross Country team, led by Head Coach Walt Marusyn, compiled a 10-1 dual meet record, while setting the standard by which future Knight distance programs would be judged. The squad defeated the likes of Princeton, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Colgate, Rutgers, Army, Lehigh, Montclair, Rider and Yale. The lone blemish on the record was a loss to Maryland. Besides a great dual meet record, the team also placed fourth or higher at four different invitationals. They finished third at the Glassboro Invitational, fourth at the Lehigh Invitational, and second at both the IC4A’s and Metropolitan Championships. To end their spectacular season, team MVP, Paul Marzan, represented the Knights at NCAA championship in Madison, Wisconsin.
