Paul Steeds was a member of the Fairleigh Dickinson University men’s track and field team from 1977 to 1981.  As a freshman, he placed first in the New Jersey Championship meet with a time of 23:23 in the five mile race.  In the same year, he became the first FDU runner to take the Met crown by recording a time of 25:03.8 in the five mile.  Steed’s success in the five mile led him to an individual first place finish at the IC4A Championship and helped the Knights win their first IC4A title.

As a junior, Steeds became the program’s first sub-four minute miler, completing the mile in a personal-best record of 3:59.6. He also placed 2nd in the mile in  the AAU’s at Madison Square  Garden.  Steeds completed his career at FDU with a seventh place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championship, while setting the Canadian and program record with a time of 3:44.2 in the 1,500 meter at the Dartmouth Relays that year.
