Michael Lonergan became the Knights' second soccer All-America selection in 1963, helping the program to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance under legendary head coach George Glasgow. He was also a First Team All-Tri-State pick and was named team Most Valuable Player that year as his outstanding play in the backfield contributed to a defense which allowed just eight goals on the season and posted six shutouts.

Lonergan earned All-Tri-State Second Team honors again in 1964, as the Knights earned a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance after an undefeated (9-0-1) regular season. He also chipped in on offense, scoring four goals in his career for a team that posted a four-year mark of 29-7-5.
