FDU Hall of Fame
Michael J. Clarke (1978-81) is considered by many to be the greatest thrower in the history of FDU track and field. He set three school records between 1980 and 1981, including a mark of 54'8" in the 35-pound weight throw, a distance of 171'2" in the discus throw and a toss of 174"4" in the hammer throw. Each of these records remains over 30 years later. Clarke was a two-time Collegiate Track Conference Indoor Champion in the 35-pound with throw, capturing the honors in both his junior and senior seasons, and secured the discus crown at the Florida Relays as a freshman. He also participated internationally in the 1976 and 1980 Canadian Olympic Trials. Clarke currently serves as a member of the FDU Board of Trustees and has been an advocate for student-athletes. He has been recognized by the University on several occasions, including receiving the Elia G. Stratis Castle Award in 2009, which funds three track and field scholarships.
