Don Patlen was a three-year varsity letter winner for the baseball team from 1953-55, recording a .321 career batting average. In 1953, he led the Knights with a .356 batting average, 16 runs, 21 hits, 15 runs batted in and five home runs. After batting .281 with a team-leading seven stolen bases and 14 runs driven in during the 1954 campaign, Patlen led the squad again in 1955 with a .358 batting average, 24 runs scored, 29 hits, three round-trippers, four triples and 10 stolen bases as he earn All-East Second Team honors. He also played one year (1954-55) with the men’s basketball team and went on to play baseball professionally with the New York Giants organization.
