After beginning the season at the Bryant Invite with a time of 25:52.6, freshman Darrel Gooding of the Fairleigh Dickinson cross country team was honored as the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week.

In the 8k, Gooding finished seventh overall and sixth among runners on teams that figured into the scoring. The Somerset, N.J. native was the top NEC rookie finisher and one slot behind the NEC’s top finisher in the race, Mount St. Mary’s Tommy Gruschow.

Gooding’s 25:52.6 effort was faster than FDU’s top time from last season of 27:01.9 by more than a minute.
