Following an impressive performance at the NYC Gotham Cup last weekend, Fairleigh Dickinson freshman sprinter Jasper Savoy was named the Northeast Conference Track and Field Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, Jan. 15.
Savoy added his name to the list of IC4A Championship qualifiers while competing at the 168th Street Armory in New York City last week. The freshman standout completed the 60m at the NYC Gotham Cup in 6.94s. The time, which ranks him third overall on the NEC leader board, is .04 second below the qualifying standard for the annual IC4A Championships in March. Only three other NEC sprinters have achieved the IC4A standard in the 60m thus far this season, and Savoy is the lone rookie of the bunch.
Earlier in the season, the Lusby, Md. native matched the IC4A Championship standard for the 55m with a hand-timed 6.2 at the FDU Knight Indoor Classic and followed up with a 6.7 hand-timed 60m at the Fordham Season Opener.
