Sophomore basketball standout Erika Livermore was named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league on Tuesday, Jan. 8. This is the second time this season Livermore has been selected for the accolade.
Livermore, a NEC All-Rookie selection in 2012, showed no signs of a sophomore slump as she opened her second season of NEC play this past weekend. The sophomore center was sensational during the two-game sample, dominating in the post and delivering during crunch time. Helping FDU lift the lid off the league schedule with road wins over Wagner and Mount St. Mary's, Livermore averaged 24.0 points and 17.5 rebounds per contest, while shooting 50 percent from the floor. The 6-foot-1 post player tallied back-to-back double-doubles to run her league-leading total to 10 and also set the league's single-game scoring high for NEC play.
Putting forth a monster Monday night performance, Livermore poured in a career-high 33 points and secured a career-best 18 rebounds at Mount St. Mary's. In addition to becoming only the third NEC player to reach the 30-point mark this season, the second-year Knight was clutch down the stretch of FDU's 69-60 overtime win. Despite playing with four fouls, she grabbed two boards in overtime and hit all four of her free throw attempts during the final 1:41 of the extra session.
Livermore tallied 15 points and 17 rebounds during Saturday's NEC opener on Staten Island. When Wagner pulled to within three points late, Livermore answered with a layup at the 1:32 mark and FDU never led by fewer than four during the remainder of the 68-59 triumph. Livermore went 17-for-34 shooting for the week and converted at a 13-for-19 clip from the free throw line.
