BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – The FDU Knights were well represented in this week's NEC awards after an unbeaten week on the pitch.
Candela Espana was crowned both the Player and Rookie of the Week, while goalkeeper
Rosemarie Leblanc claimed Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.
The freshman Espana played a key role in FDU's 2-0 victory over Fairfield. She scored her first career goal on a beautiful free kick that ricocheted into the back of the net. In the closing minutes, Espana assisted on FDU's second goal with a dicing diagonal pass that sprung
Marina Burzaco behind the Stags' defenders. She now has four points in her debut campaign.
Leblanc, FDU's junior keeper, made 12 saves across two matches this week. The junior denied seven Fairfield shots in FDU's victory and then made five saves in a scoreless draw at Loyola Maryland. She now has posted three shutouts on the season and is tied for 22
nd in the country in total saves with 35.
