BALTIMORE, Md.— The FDU Knights (1-2-3) played to a scoreless draw with the Loyola Greyhounds (0-1-5). The Knights outshot the Greyhounds 14-10, while each team put six shots on target. Rosmarie LeBlanc secured her third shutout of the season, also picking up five more saves in the match.
The Greyhounds had the first chance of the night, which came in the 17th minute of action. Loyola was faced with an open-net opportunity before Elisa Garcia stepped in to dispel the attempt. The Greyhounds fired off another shot shortly after, which was thwarted by a diving save from LeBlanc. Shortly after, the Knights ended the 19th minute with a shot of their own coming off the foot of Anna Salas.
Marina Burzaco saw the best opportunity of the half, letting a shot loose toward the top-left corner of the net, which was turned away in the 27th minute. The 30th minute saw a shot from distance by Candela Espana sail above the net.
To begin the second half, Elena Cvetkovic took one of her three second-half attempts, with this one settling into the waiting arms of the Greyhounds' keeper. Loyola found another open net on the counterattack, but it was Cvetkovic waiting to clear the ball out of harm's way in the 55th minute.
In the 77th and 78th minutes, Cvetkovic let a pair of shots fly, both of which went high of the mark. The shots were part of a sustained possession by the Knights as they continued to pressure the Greyhounds' defensive unit. A shot by Loyola in the 87th minute was the last gasp for the home side, as LeBlanc was there to corral the ball.
Just inside the 89th minute, Burzaco took the final shot for the Knights, missing the top corner by inches. The Knights continued to pressure Loyola for the final minute, moving the ball inside Loyola's half as the teams played to a 0-0 draw.
"We were happy with how we played. Had to deal with a good amount of high press and after the first half I felt we settled down and really began to create better opportunities," said head coach Eric Teepe. "In addition it was great to get Dani [Daniela Peschetti] back on the field."
