TEANECK, N.J. – FDU (7-5, 3-1) held on by a score of 11-8 in a victory over New Haven (2-7, 1-3) in Teaneck on Wednesday afternoon. The Knights are now 4-1 at University Stadium this season.
The Knights started fast with five first quarter goals.
Mia Devino recorded two of them, while defender
Kendal Hippert tallied her first career goal. FDU led 5-1 after the first 15 minutes. The Chargers scored the first two goals of the second period, but
Mia Layne halted their momentum with her 11
th goal of the season. At the end of the first half, FDU led 6-4.
Riley Eaton opened up the third quarter with a goal to give the Knights a bit of breathing room. New Haven continued to climb back into the game and eventually cut the deficit to one. Leading 7-6,
Jenny Spencer and
Nora Codianni each scored in a span of 44 seconds to extend FDU's advantage to three. New Haven cut the lead back down to two twice in the fourth, but goals from Eaton and Devino sealed the victory.
Devino and Eaton led the scoring charge for the Knights all afternoon. The duo combined for nine points. Devino recorded three goals and one assist, while Eaton contributed three goals and two assists.
The Knights' defensive unit, including their goalkeepers, were strong throughout the contest. Led by
Abigail McDonald with three, FDU caused 12 turnovers.
Riley Schildt and
Skylar Goodman combined to stop four of New Haven's five free position attempts. Goodman made seven saves on ten shot attempts.
FDU has now won a program record six games.
FDU will travel to Howard this Saturday, March 28, to take on the Bison. First draw control is set for 12 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
