SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The #4 FDU Knights (10-8, 6-3 NEC) fell to the #1 Le Moyne Dolphins (10-8, 8-1 NEC) 16-6 in the first round of the NEC Championship. The Knights made their postseason debut in just their fourth season as a program. Brielle McInaw and Karly Dillabough each contributed a pair of goals in the contest.
The Knights found themselves down 1-0 early before Brielle McInaw took advantage of a free position shot to level the game. The Knights let one more goal past them before the first quarter ended, trailing 2-1.
The Dolphins came out of the break with four unanswered goals to sit on a 6-1 advantage. FDU cut into the deficit with a Mia Layne goal featuring a helper from Karly Dillabough with just over six minutes left in the first half. With three minutes to play in the half, McInaw found herself in another free position attempt, landing her second goal of the afternoon. After logging one more goal, the Dolphins took a 7-3 lead into the intermission.
FDU kicked off the second half scoring, with Nora Codianni finding the back of the net on a woman-up opportunity just under two minutes into the third quarter. Le Moyne responded with a stretch of six unanswered goals before Karly Dillabough landed her first goal with 10 minutes remaining in the contest to cut the deficit to 13-5. Dillabough found the back of the net one more time, as the Dolphins put up three more scores to win 16-6.
