TEANECK, N.J.- The FDU Knights (4-4) took down the Presbyterian Blue Hose (2-5) in a nailbiting non conference women's lacrosse game. The Knights have won their third straight contest, the first such win streak in program history.
The visitors jumped out to a lead first, scoring two unassisted goals. The Knights began to pick up momentum in the final three minutes of the quarter.
Karly Dillabough landed the first strike for FDU, cutting the score to 2-1.After winning the draw control, FDU advanced the ball into their offensive third of the field, with
Nora Codianni firing off a shot, which was backed up by the Knights. Just a few seconds later,
Jenny Spencer found
Brielle McInaw who scored a game tying goal.
The Blue Hose tried to retake the lead in the waning seconds of the period, but were denied by
Riley Schildt. The teams remained tied 2-2 after one quarter of action.
FDU picked up where they left off in the second quarter, scoring two quick goals. McInaw found the back of the net twice in the span of one minute, as the Knights took a 4-1 lead with 13 minutes left in the half. Presbyterian responded in quick fashion, with two unanswered goals of their own to level the game at 4-4.
McInaw continued to boast an impressive outing for FDU, scooping up a ground ball and finding
Mia Layne to help FDU go back in front with just under nine minutes left in the first half.
The visitors landed two more blows before the intermission, going ahead off a free position up-goal and taking a 6-5 lead into the break.
To begin the second half, the teams were unable to find the back of the net. Presbyterian attempted to extend their lead but were denied by
Skylar Goodman.
Abigail McDonald recovered the ground ball and ran the length of the field to secure a successful clear. The possession was punctuated with McInaw's final goal of the day, featuring a Dillabough assist. The Knights tied the game up with 9:41 left in the third quarter.
Presbyterian continued to score in pairs, recapturing their lead 8-6 with just under three minutes in the third period. FDU's leading scorer
Nora Codianni caught fire with 63 seconds to go, cutting the deficit to 8-7 after three quarters.
Just past the 11 minute marker, the Blue Hose landed their final goal of the day, extending their lead 9-7.
Codianni struck again to bring FDU within one.
Mia Devino followed up the effort by tying the game at 9-9 with 5:31 left. Dillabough logged her second game winning goal of the year, putting the Knights ahead for good off the assist from
Riley Eaton.
Mia Layne put the exclamation point on the cone-from-behind win to put the Knights ahead 11-9. FDU held off the Blue Hose for the final 2:21 of the fourth quarter to secure their third straight win as the squad wraps up non-conference play.
The Knights won 17 draw controls and recovered nine ground balls. Offensively, the Knights fired off 27 shots, with 18 of them on target.
Skylar Goodman logged four saves and picked up the goalkeeper win after taking over in the second quarter.
The Knights travel to Central Connecticut to begin NEC play on March 14. Opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will have coverage on NEC Front Row.
