TEANECK, N.J. – The Knights (3-7, 2-1) defeated Le Moyne (3-7, 2-1) by a score of 13-7 in what goes down as a huge conference victory for FDU. A balanced offensive attack saw seven Knights hit the scoring column on Wednesday afternoon at University Stadium.
Things did not initially swing FDU's way in Teaneck. Le Moyne scored the first three goals of the game and led 4-1 over 11 minutes into the contest. Late in the first quarter,
Brielle McInaw scored her first of two goals on the day to cut the lead to 4-2 before the period ended.
The Knights flat out dominated the next two periods.
Adriana Mavlios struck for two unassisted goals to level the score at 4-4. Just 34 seconds later,
Jenny Spencer scored her third goal of the season to give FDU a 5-4 lead.
The Dolphins found a way to sneak one by at the buzzer to tie things at 5-5 heading into halftime.
Nora Codianni got the party started in the third quarter with a goal to put FDU ahead 6-5. Less than a minute later,
Karly Dillabough tallied her team leading 20
th goal of the season to give FDU their first lead larger than one.
Codianni provided a little bit of everything in a stat-sheet-stuffing performance. She finished with three goals, five ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls. The Knights sophomore leads the NEC in caused turnovers at 18.
FDU tacked on two more courtesy of Codianni and
Riley Eaton to extend their lead to 10-5 before the quarter ended. This marked four unanswered goals in the third period.
When it was all said and done, it was a dominant 9-1 Knights run over 34:30 that sealed the victory. FDU's stellar defense held Le Moyne to just two shots over the second and third periods.
Le Moyne sliced the deficit to four, but FDU extended their lead to six before the clock hit zero. McInaw, Codianni and Dillabough all scored again in the fourth period.
Dillabough's last goal makes it four-straight multi-goal games and a six-game goal streak overall. She has found the back of the net 11 times in the last four games.
FDU outshot Le Moyne on goal 24-11. They also had their way in the circle, winning 15 draw controls to Le Moyne's eight. Remarkably, McInaw tied her career best with 11 draw controls herself.
While FDU's draw controls won possessions, so did their defense. Le Moyne committed 20 turnovers, ten of them caused by a pesky Knights' backline. Codianni was responsible for four of them.
Notably, FDU junior
Skylar Goodman recorded her 300
th career save today. Goodman is currently third in the NEC in goals against average.
