TEANECK, N.J. – The FDU Knights (1-7, 0-1) made things interesting, but could not complete the comeback, in a 10-7 loss to LIU (3-5, 1-0) on Saturday afternoon.
The first quarter produced very little offense as FDU goalie
Skylar Goodman made multiple key saves. The Sharks did find the back of the net twice and took a 2-0 lead into the second quarter.
Adriana Mavlios and
Karly Dillabough connected not once, but twice, to open the second period. Dillabough finished two goals to tie the game at 2-2. Mavlios was credited with assists on both tallies. LIU scored twice in the final four minutes to take a 4-2 lead at the half.
The third quarter was all Sharks. They outscored FDU 4-1 and extended their lead to 8-3.
In the fourth period, the Sharks added one goal to make it 9-3 before the Knights' comeback began.
Brielle McInaw scored with 5:33 remaining to start the run. Dillabough then tallied her third goal of the game and made it two unanswered for FDU. Following this goal, McInaw struck twice in 29 seconds to cut the deficit to 9-7.
A Sharks' goal on the next possession with 73 seconds remaining put the game on ice.
It was a good effort from Goodman between the pipes, who made nine saves. Her play prevented LIU from pulling away.
Dillabough and McInaw, who both recorded hat-tricks, continue to lead the FDU offense. They sit tied for the team lead at 14 goals. Dillabough has scored in four-straight games, and McInaw has now recorded five multi-goal games this season.
While FDU was outshot, they did make the most of their opportunities when going at the net. They put 11 of 15 shots on goal.
