PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Women's lacrosse earned their first victory of 2025 with a 12-11 defeat of La Salle on Saturday afternoon. FDU now sits at 1-1 on the season heading into their home opener next Wednesday.
The star of the day offensively was
Karly Dillabough. The sophomore matched a career high with five goals. Dillabough also tallied two assists and two ground balls. She is currently leading the team with seven goals and nine points on the young season.
It was a dream start for the Knights on a snowy North Philadelphia landscape.
Nora Codianni buried the game's first goal less than two minutes into the action. This goal was followed by two goals from Dillabough and a third from
Adriana Mavlios. At the six-minute mark in the first quarter, FDU had already built a 4-0 lead.
La Salle answered with two goals, but the Knights were not done unleashing their first-quarter attack. FDU's eldest offensive combination,
Riley Eaton and
Brielle McInaw, hooked up for a goal to make it 5-2. Eaton got the assist, while McInaw struck for her second goal of the season. The Explorers would score again, but before the period ended McInaw found the back of the net for her second goal of the day and extended the lead back to three.
The second quarter was more of the same. Five goals in the first nine minutes made it a 6-0 run for the Knights. Three of these goals came from Dillabough, while the others came from Codianni and McInaw. This cemented McInaw's hat-trick.
This marks the second-straight two-goal game to open the year for Codianni. The sophomore also collected two ground balls and caused two turnovers.
FDU led 11-4 at halftime.
La Salle flipped the script in the second half. They scored six unanswered in the third quarter and made it an 11-10 game heading into the fourth.
The snow continued to fall in the fourth quarter as both teams struggled to find offensive footing. With 9:17 to play, Eaton delivered a huge insurance goal to make it 12-10 FDU.
Julia Corry was credited with the assist.
La Salle responded with a goal of their own to make things interesting. With 1:04 remaining they were given a free position attempt, but goalkeeper
Skylar Goodman came up with a huge denial. The Knights would possess the ball for the remainder of the game.
Goodman finished the game with ten saves.
It was a dominating effort on ground balls for the Knights. They won that department 25-8.
This marks the first-ever non-conference win in program history.
