PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Trailing 1-0 in the 83', FDU freshman
Elena Cvetkovic netted an equalizer that earned the Knights a 1-1 draw at Providence. The Knights move to 0-2-2 in 2024.
This marked the second result for the Knights in their two matchups against the Big East this year. The first came against Seton Hall and this one comes on the road against a Friars team that danced in the NCAA tournament last year.
"I think it was really positive," said Head Coach
Eric Teepe. "I think it was good real team effort, as well. I was very happy with how the players coming off the bench performed."
FDU's defensive unit held their ground in a first half where they were shot 14-2.
Rosemarie Leblanc made three of her four saves on the night in the first half.
Mona Schlegl stood tall in front of an open net near the end of the first half blocking a shot that kept the game scoreless. Schlegl logged her fourth consecutive 90-minute shift in this match.
Andrea Ougaard drew woodwork in the 33
' off a header that nearly gave the Knights a 1-0 lead, but the game remained tied heading into halftime.
Just 2:17 into the second half, Providence capitalized on a free kick and drilled a shot from outside the box to give them the game's first goal.
FDU responded and flipped the rhythm of the game shortly after conceding. It would be the Knights that outshot their opponents 7-3 in the second half.
Deep into the second half, Cvetkovic stayed onside to receive a perfect ball from
Ana Salas and found the back of the net with a right-footed shot. This goal at 83:42 leveled the match for good and marked Cvetkovic's second goal in as many games. She is the first Knight with mutliple goals this season.
Ana Salas now sits at three points for the season after that assist.
