BURLINGTON, Vt. – The FDU Knights played their fourth-straight road match on Sunday at Virtue Field against Vermont. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Knights were able to equalize and come away from the game with a 1-1 draw. This marks the Knights' third draw of the season and moves their record to 0-2-3.
This match proved to be full of quality chances for both sides as there were a total of 32 shots between the two teams. Nine of Vermont's and six of FDU's attempts were on goal.
In the 19', Vermont's Bailey Ayer put a strike on net that beat the FDU keeper and gave the Catamounts a 1-0 lead.
This advantage held up for just over 21 minutes before the Knights had their moment.
Elisa Garcia played a pass backwards to
Marina Burzaco, who picked it up outside the 18'. Burzaco launched a long-distance shot that went top shelf and tied the game at 1-1. It is Garcia's second assist of the season, and Burzaco's first goal of her career.
The second half saw the Knights apply most of the attacking pressure as they came close to finding the go-ahead goal on multiple occasions. Katia Cárdaba ended up with the ball by herself in front of the goal in the 68
' but sent the shot wide right. This was one of six second half shots for FDU.
Goalkeeper
Rosemarie Leblanc totaled a career high eight saves in the match. She was called upon in several key moments to preserve the draw for FDU. In the 88', Vermont attacker Aubrey Bough found herself one-on-one with Leblanc, but the freshman out of Canada denied the shot attempt and kept the game level.
