BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – Nora Codianni and
Karly Dillabough have been named to the 2024 NEC All-Rookie Team, announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. They become the second and third freshmen to be named to the All-Rookie Team in FDU women's lacrosse history, following
Brielle McInaw's selection in 2023.
The two Knights make up one third of the six-person All-Rookie squad. This ties FDU with Merrimack for the most selections on the team.
On the year, Codianni and Dillabough combined for roughly 18% of FDU's goals, 15% of the team's ground balls, and 40% of all draw controls won by the Knights. Their fingerprints were all over FDU's 15-5 dominant road win over Howard, when the two midfielders each tallied five ground balls and six draw controls.
Codianni, a midfielder, announced her arrival in Teaneck with a two-goal debut against Rider in the opening game of the 2024 season. She followed it up with another multi-point day against Monmouth and was crowned the year's first NEC Rookie of the Week. She would finish the season with nine goals and three assists for a total of 12 points.
While Codianni registered goals in seven of her first eight games, the Long Beach, N.Y. native, started to make her presence felt defensively in the second half of the season. Her physicality stifled opponents to the tune of 15 caused turnovers, which led the Knights. Codianni caused multiple turnovers in five games, four of which came in tightly contested matchups with NEC foes. The disruptive rookie also picked up 23 ground balls, tied for third-most on the team, and controlled 40 draws, which ranked second for the Knights. Codianni, started in all 16 games for the Burgundy and Blue, registering a ground ball and draw control in all but one contest.
Dillabough also hit the scoring column early and often in her freshman campaign. The Syracuse, N.Y. product tallied three goals through the first three games of the season. The attack-minded midfielder put her scoring ability on full display in FDU's 14-10 victory over Delaware State when she scorched the Hornets for five goals. This effort was tied for the second-most goals scored by a NEC player in any game this season. Dillabough finished the year with 14 goals, ranking fourth in that department for the Knights. She would add on seven assists for a total of 21 points.
Dillabough was also an integral part of FDU's draw control effort as the rookie corralled in 25 draws on the year, which put her third on the team. She totaled at least three draw controls in three contests, including a season-high six draw controls against Howard. Another piece of consistency, the rookie out of Westhill High School started in all but one game on the season and picked up 17 ground balls.
