SOMERSET, N.J. - FDU women's volleyball took home two of the three Northeast Conference weekly honors Wednesday as the league office announced graduate student
Tatijana Fucka was named the NEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week while freshman
Kylie Nott earned her first NEC Rookie of the Week nod.
Standing at six-foot-three, the middle blocker from Bologna, Italy paced the Burgundy and Blue in blocks with 22, including seven solo. In the Knights' win against NJIT on Tuesday, September 6, the UAB transfer turned Brick City into
Block City, recorded a season-high seven blocks with six going down as block assists. In 16 sets placed including three matches played in the Rose Hill Classic, Fucka recorded 48.5 points for FDU, in addition to adding 34 kills.
Averaging 3.03 points per set, Fucka also averaged 2.13 kills and 1.38 blocks per set as the Knights went 2-2 in the four-match period. On the season, the newcomer on the banks of the Hackensack has logged 65 kills with a season hitting percentage of .266 - good for fifth in the NEC ahead of Nott by one slot.
Ranking seventh in the NEC in total blocks, Fucka's nine solo blocks are the most of any player in the eight-team league.
Garnering her first career accolade in the Burgundy and Blue, Nott has gotten off to a blazing start as a Knight. Posting 48 kills, the Rockwall, Texas product earned four starts in four games played over 16 sets, averaged 3.0 kills per set in that span. With a team-leading hitting percentage of .279 against those who've met the minimum over the past week, the freshman outside hitter has found herself on the NEC leaderboard in several offensive categories en route to being named Rookie of the Week. Sitting with a season total hitting percentage of .265, the six-foot Nott ranked sixth in the league as of September 7 and sits listed ninth in kills with a whopping 81 on the young campaign.
Moving along to the national rankings, Nott currently sits 84th in total kills among NCAA Division I student-athletes and has also logged 219 total attacks, good for 98th out of almost 200 players.
"It was really fun to watch these two players ball out this week," said first-year head coach
David Nguyen. "Tatijana [Fucka] really anchored our block, while Kylie [Nott] showed how dominant she can be offensively. We are all excited for what is to come with these two help leading the way. Both are very deserving of these recognition."
Nott and Fucka were also named NEC Prime Performers.
FDU women's volleyball returns to action on Friday, September 9 when the Knights faced Fairfield in the Stags' Fairfield Invitational at 2 p.m. live on the Stags Sports Network.
