STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Conroy Ellis and Tahj Mullings secure first-place finishes while four other Knights medal in season opener at Youree Spence Garcia Invitational.
Freshmen Ahmed Brown and Luis Abreu performed very well in the first competition of their collegiate careers and put-up strong numbers. Brown just missed out on a top-three finish in the shot-put event, placing fourth with a 14.60m throw. Abreu placed fifth in the 3000m run with a solid time of 9:24.44.
Seniors Salif Mane, Conroy Ellis, and Kenroy Ellis all earned medals in their first competition of the season.
Mane placed second in the 60m dash with a time of 6.96.
Conroy Ellis topped the competition placing first in the 500m run by two full seconds with a time of 1:04.17.
The Knights dominated the 200m dash with three athletes placing in the top five. Kenroy Ellis earned a second-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 22.47 and junior Daniel Chambers placed third with a 22.65 time. Senior Taeco O'Garro rounded out the top five with a time of 22.86.
The Knights also dominated the field events with Junior Tahj Mullings placing first in the weight throw and second in the shot-put events. Mullings posted a 15.64m throw in the weight throw which earned him a first-place finish and a 14.66m toss in the shot-put which placed him second.
Freshman Ahmed Brown also performed very well in his first competition, just missing out on a medal with a 14.60m throw in the shot-put event which placed him fourth.
