Scouting the Blue Devils
CCSU is coming off of a bounce-back of their own, as a late goal from Roma McLaughlin put them past Merrimack, 1-0, on Thursday, October 7. This win came after Bryant was able to topple them with a 1-0 score line, marking CCSU's first conference defeat of the season. The Blue Devils are helmed by the hero of the Merrimack match, MaLaughlin, who earned a Hermann Trophy Watch List nod at the start of the season. The Irish national leads her team in points with four goals and two assists. She is followed closely behind by reigning NEC Rookie of the Year in Kelly Brady, who has three goals and two assists. CCSU also have the reigning NEC Goalkeeper of the Year in Amanda McQuillan, whose 0.71 goals against average currently leads the conference.
Scouting the Knights
The Knights were able to bounce back from their first loss in conference play with a 2-0 victory over the dangerous Sacred Heart Pioneers. FDU was boosted by Aitana Martínez-Montoya's pair of goals, one taken on a neat finish from a brilliant through ball from Briana Esteves, the other off of a set-piece delivery courtesy of Madelyn Robbins. Martínez-Montoya has been in stellar form as of late with four goals and an assist in conference play. Malene Nielsen's seventh shutout of the season has her sitting just one shutout behind the nation's leaders in the category, and her goals against average continues to drop, as it now sits as just 1.16, good for second in the conference. Her save percentage sits at 79.7% and also ranks second in the NEC.
Coach Teepe's Thoughts
"Obviously this is a big game for us and we want to show ourselves what we are capable of doing. That being said, the important aspect in looking at this game is understanding we need four more wins to be in the NEC Tournament, and if we can win tomorrow it gets us one step closer to our first goal as a team."
What's Next
The Knights venture into Staten Island for a meeting with Wagner at Hameline Field. That match is on Thursday, October 14, at 7 p.m., and will be streamed live on NEC Front Row.
