HACKENSACK, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson Director of Athletics
Bradford Hurlbut announced
David Downey as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Knights on Monday afternoon.
Downey arrives in Hackensack after spending the last six seasons as the Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning at Lafayette.
"I am very excited to welcome David to the FDU Family," said Hurlbut. "With his extensive background in the field of strength and conditioning, I feel confident that he will make an immediate impact on the performance and conditioning of our student-athletes. David's passion, knowledge and vision for his industry and for Knights athletics made him the perfect fit for the program we are creating in Teaneck."
Downey began his tenure at Lafayette as an intern in 2014 before ultimately ascending to his position as assistant director. He is an NSCA certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach, Crossfit Level 1 and NASM Golf Fitness Specialist.
"I am thrilled to join the FDU family," said Downey. "When
Daniel King brought me in for my interview it was easy to see how much potential there is here and how much the staff and coaches care. I am excited to take our student-athletes and strength and conditioning program to the next level."
Prior to working at Lafayette, Downey interned at Moravian and Princeton. A 2013 graduate of Rutgers University, Downey majored in Exercise Science and minored in Nutrition. He is currently pursuing his Masters of Education in Positive Coaching at Missouri.
