STRENGTH & CONDITIONING - VOLUNTEER INTERNSHIPS
The Strength and Conditioning Department at Fairleigh Dickinson University-Metropolitan Campus offers unpaid internships for the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. Volunteers chosen to participate in the internship program will have the opportunity to acquire valuable knowledge in the operation of an NCAA Division 1 Strength and Conditioning Department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum qualifications for acceptance in the internship program are as follows:
1- Must be no less than three (3) semesters into collegiate degree program in either of the following disciplines: Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Nutrition, Biomechanics, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy or any other related field. This is also subject to the discretion of the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
2- Must be able to commit to a regular weekly schedule.
TYPES OF INTERNSHIPS:
Internships at Fairleigh Dickinson University-Metropolitan Campus are classified as Category 1 or Category 2 internships.
Category 1 Internship:
Introduction to Principles of the Discipline of Strength and Conditioning in the Collegiate Clinical Setting.
Students will be exposed to the primary principles of Strength and Conditioning at the collegiate level and will be expected to identify the roles of; strength training, plyometrics, flexibility/recovery, energy system development, and psychological factors as well as their affect on collegiate student-athletes. Students will also be able to identify the role of a Strength and Conditioning Coach in the "Athletic Paradigm". Upon completion of a Category 1 internship, students will have demonstrated their competence in obtaining a Category 2 Internship.
Category 2 Internship:
Practice of the Discipline of Strength and Conditioning in the Collegiate Clinical Setting.
Only students who have completed a Category 1 Internship at Fairleigh Dickinson University-Metropolitan Campus OR an equivalent internship at another NCAA athletic program are eligible for a Category 2 internship. Students obtaining a Category 2 Internship will directly assist with the development and implementation of Strength and Conditioning programming for all 19 NCAA Division 1 athletic teams at Fairleigh Dickinson University-Metropolitan Campus. Students will be asked to make a more significant time commitment during this internship as the student will play a more active role in the everyday operations of the Strength and Conditioning Department.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Category 1 and Category 2 internship responsibilities will differ, though certain duties and expectations will be independent of the type of internship to be completed.
Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following;
1. Assisting the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in all aspects of developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for all 19 NCAA Division 1 athletic teams.
2. Assist with daily weight room supervision, maintenance.
3. Data entry utilizing Microsoft Excel and Word programming.
4. Set-Up and Break-Down of lifting sessions.
5. Willingness to participate in a non-traditional work schedule which may include some evening, weekend and holiday activities.

- Application Deadline: May 1
- Start Date for Summer Internship: June 1
