TEANECK, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer head coach
Eric Teepe unveiled the five players forming the incoming freshman class of 2023 on Thursday afternoon.
The five players joining the Knights for the start of the 2019 season are Nina Carlomusto, Naemi Hausen, Katie Leckonby, Maja Skansberg and Cayla Waterman. The class consists of a defender, two midfielders, a forward and a goalkeeper, and features players from three different states as well as Germany and Sweden.
"We are extremely excited about our incoming 2023 class," Coach Teepe said. "They are an exciting group of players who are driven to helping FDU get back to the NEC championships and beyond. In addition, this class will feature tremendous student-athletes both on the field and off. We cannot wait to get the season started."
2019 Fairleigh Dickinson Women's Soccer Recruiting Class
Nina Carlomusto – Defender – Hicksville, New York
Carlomusto played for Hicksville High School and HBC Impact 00 on the club circuit, helping HBC Impact to become three-time USYSA regional champions and four-time USYSA state champions. She also helped guide HBC Impact to a third-place finish at the USYS National League title in 2018, leading to a third-place finish at the USYSA National Championships later that year. She was also named to the 2001 ODP Region I roster and earned all-classification honors in three straight seasons while at Hicksville. Academically, Carlomusto is a member of the National Honor Society and also served as her school's class president for two years.
Naemi Hausen – Midfielder – Freiburg, Germany
Hausen played in the midfield for SC Freiburg in the Second Bundesliga in Germany and was also a member of her South Baden State Association Team while attending school at the Walter-Eucken Gymnasium. Her team finished in ninth place in the Second Bundesliga with nine wins and seven draws this past season, and she played in 17 matches with SC Freiburg in the 2017-18 campaign. She will attend FDU in pursuit of a degree in international business, having already earned her French KMK B1 Certificate.
Katie Leckonby – Goalkeeper – Salisbury, North Carolina
Leckonby was the starting goalkeeper for the past three seasons at Gray Stone Day School, leading her team to three straight conference titles from 2016 to 2018. She earned All-Region honors this past season as well as all-conference accolades each of the last two years. Leckonby is also a All-State and All-Region performer in track & field, capturing All-State honors in the 800 meter relay in indoor track while helping her team to back-to-back conference outdoor titles in 2017 and 2018 while earning all-region honors. Academically, Leckonby is an honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society.
Maja Skansberg – Midfielder – Stockholm, Sweden
Skansberg is a midfielder for the youth Swedish National Team, participating in the early development program for each of the past three years. Skansberg competed in club soccer for AIK F19 which plays in Sweden's top youth division. She helped guide her AIK squad to a pool victory at the Gothia Cup back in 2013.
Cayla Waterman – Forward – Perry Hall, Maryland
Waterman lettered for four years at Eastern Technical High School, and she played club soccer for Baltimore Union Elite 99. Her club team competed in the USYS Eastern Regional Championships in 2018, and she guided her Eastern Tech team to the Maryland Class 2A State Playoffs Round of 16 in each of the past two years. She is a two-time first team all-county and first team all-division forward, and she also competed for two years in track and field at Eastern Tech. Academically, she is a four-year honor roll student and has earned scholar athlete awards in soccer in each of the past four years. Waterman is the younger sister of current FDU defender
