W. Volleyball Falls to Rider to Conclude Rose Hill Classic

Box Score
BRONX, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team finished play at the Rose Hill Classic, hosted by Fordham, on Saturday with a hard fought match that resulted in a 3-0 loss to Rider, with scores of 19-25, 27-29, 20-25. With the victory, the Broncs improve to 2-4 on the season, while the Knights fall to 1-6 overall.

In the first set, FDU came out strong and controlled the pace through the first half of the set. Sophomore Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) would record a kill and two service aces to start off the scoring for the Knights. After a big momentum switch, the Broncs would go on a five-point run to take an 18-14 and never look back.

The second set would be a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. FDU would go on a six-point run to take the lead, 23-21, behind junior Corey Lostetter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson)'s service points. But Rider would rally and eventually tie the set, before taking a 2-0 lead after claiming the 29-27 victory.

In the last set, FDU would show some life, outscoring Rider, 7-3, to go in front 10-8 after a kill from junior Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano). But the Broncs would score seven of the next eight points to retake the lead at 15-12. However, the Knights responded with a mini 5-1 run, as freshman Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont)'s kill provided a 17-16 lead. Rider then knotted the set up and then scored six of the next seven points, before ending the match on a 8-4 spurt to clich the three-set victory.

Senior Deborah Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) led FDU on the defensive side after recording a career high 32 digs in the match. This would also be the first time that Hong has recorded more than 30 digs in a single match. Butler would also be a catalyst for the Knights' offense after recording 30 assists in the match to set up Laton's 11 kills. Butler would also be the only player for FDU to make the all-tournament team.

The Knights and the Broncs will meet again on Wednesday, Sept. 10 in Lawrenceville, N.J., with first serve slated for 7 p.m.
