Hynds' Personal Record Leads W. Cross Country at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's cross country team completed its season-opening meet at the Fordham Fiasco/Ed Joyce Memorial on Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.

Senior Keyana Hynds (Bronx, N.Y./A. Philip Randolph) returned to her hometown and showed outstanding courage by finishing in a time of 19:59, as she set a personal record by one minute and 53 seconds on the 5K (3.1 miles) course.

Sophomore Kristy Bono (Belleville, N.J./Belleville), who was running in her first race as a Knight, recorded a time of 20:27. Finishing eight seconds behind was Bono's twin sister, Jamie Bono (Belleville, N.J./Belleville), who was also running in her first meet for FDU.

In her first collegiate race, freshman Jhanee Sterrett (Queens, N.Y./Boys and Girls ) posted a time of 21:53. Also finishing for the Knights were sophomore Mildred Sam-Othu (22:40), sophomore Kenesha Brown (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) (23:24) and freshman Omawattie Singh (Queens, N.Y./Boys and Girls) (23:24).

"This was a great start to the season," Head Coach Sharlene Milwood-Lee said. "I am pleased with how the team opened the year. This will be a baseline for the rest of the season. As we move forward to Monmouth, we are only looking to improve."

The Knights will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 when they travel to Holmdel, N.J. to participate in the Monmouth Invitational.
