W. Soccer to Host Lafayette Sunday

TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team will host the Leopards of Lafayette College at University Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 9.  Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m.

The Knights enter Sunday's match with a 1-2-3 record on the year.  This week's Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, Rachel Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central ), leads the team offensively with nine points.  She tallied three goals and an assist in last weekend's play that saw the Knights go 1-1 against Delaware State and Rider. 

Junior Sage DoVale (Lilburn, Ga./Collins Hill) has produced two shutouts for the Knights in the net.  She currently maintains a .769 save percentage with 0.90 goals allowed per game.

FDU has outshot opponents, 78-59 through six games with eight goals scored.  The team will be looking to produce scoring opportunities and even their record with a win.

The Leopards enter Sunday's game with a 2-2-1 mark.  The team fell to Manhattan, 2-1 on Friday, Sept. 7.  After tying the game in the 87th minute, the Leopards allowed the Jaspers to score the game-winning goal thirty seconds later.

Lafayette has outshot opponents, 83-44 this season with a season-high 24 shots produced against Saint Peter's and Howard. 

Jill Dozier leads the team offensively with three goals on the year, while Alyssa Finelli has two, including Friday's lone goal for the Leopards.  Senior Lauren Smedley has recorded three shutouts for Lafayette in goal with a .857 save percentage and 0.77 goals allowed per game.

Head Coach Mike Statham is in his seventh season with Lafayette and guided the team to a second-place finish in the Patriot League last year with a 9-6-2 record.  This season, the team was selected to finish fourth in the preseason coaches' poll with junior defender, Catherine Galgano named to the preseason all-league team.

Following the tilt with Lafayette, the Knights will conclude nonconference action with a road game against NJIT and a home match against Binghamton next weekend.
