Box Score

Teaneck, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team picked up its first Northeast Conference win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Robert Morris on Sunday, Sept. 30.  The Knights improve to 4-6-3 on the season, with a 1-3 mark in NEC action.  The Colonials drop to 0-11-2 on the year, with a 0-2-1 conference record.

Two first-half goals from Rachel Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central ) gave the Knights the initial advantage.  The Colonials cut the lead in the 82nd minute but were unable to stop the Knights' attack.

In the tenth minute the Knights were awarded a corner kick on the right side.  Senior Julie Woolridge (St. John's, Newfoundland/Bishops College) placed the ball near the far post where Carly Tice (Highland Falls, N.Y./James I. O'Neill ) took a point-blank shot that was stopped by a Robert Morris defender.  The defender was called for a hand ball, giving FDU a penalty shot.  Hoekstra found the back of the net to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.

Just three minutes later, Kasey Schiavoni (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) received the ball from Esther Rochon (Saint Romuald, Quebec/College Francois-Xavier-Garneau) and dribbled down the left sideline.  Schiavoni sent a cross into the six-yard box where Hoekstra headed the ball past RMU keeper, Chelsea de Jager, to put FDU up 2-0.

In the first half the Knights led the Colonials, 9-2, with three shots on goal.  Junior Sage DoVale (Lilburn, Ga./Collins Hill) made two saves for FDU.

The Knights led the offensive attack in the second half and outshot the Colonials, 7-4, with two shots on goal and chances set up by Rochon, Hoekstra and Tice.

The Colonials produced in a run in the 82nd minute when Cassie Raymond passed a ball that forced DoVale to take on a one-on-one situation high in the penalty box.  DoVale pressured Kristen Check, but Check chipped the ball over her head to find the back of the net.

FDU continued to press the Robert Morris backline in the final minutes of the game and took the eventual win, 2-1.

The Knights led the shot count, 16-6 overall, with five shots on goal, compared to RMU's three.  FDU led in corner kicks, 10-1.  DoVale earned her fourth win of the season with two saves and one goal allowed.

The Knights have one week before they return to action on Sunday, Oct. 7 in West Long Branch, N.J.  FDU will face in-state rival, Monmouth, at 6 p.m.
