The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team was defeated Friday afternoon in its first game in the Air Force Academy Tournament, 4-0, by Northern Colorado in Colorado Springs, CO. With the victory, the Bears improve to 3-2-0 on the season, while the Knights fall to 0-3-0 overall.
At the 21:54 mark in the first half, Danielle Birdsall found the back of the net to put Northern Colorado 1-0. Twelve minutes later, Eryn Daniel scored her first of two first-half goals to give the Bears a 2-0 advantage. Daniel then scored at the 42:40 mark of the first half to give Northern Colorado a 3-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Laura Wayland scored for the Bears at the 88:45 mark to extend Northern Colorado's lead to 4-0, which would be the final outcome.
The Knights were able to get shots on goal by senior Lisa-Marie Curti (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux) and freshman Noelle Harner (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land).
Northern Colorado had 19 shots on goal. Freshman Sage DoVale (Lilburn, Ga./Collins Hill), making her first career start in the net, was able to make five saves.
"We went into today's game knowing the challenge that was ahead of us," said Head Coach Renee Montana. "There are things we need to solidify before we start seeing good results, but I am confident this team will pull it together."
The Knights return to action in the Air Force Academy Tournament on Sunday, September 5, as they take on the host school Air Force. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
