Women?s Soccer Loses at Quinnipiac, 4-1

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team was defeated, 4-1, Friday, Oct. 24 in Hamden, CT, by home-standing Quinnipiac University.  Sophomore defender Lisa-Marie Curti (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux) tallied the Knights' (6-9-0, 3-3-0 Northeast Conference) lone goal of the afternoon ? the first of her collegiate career ? in the 22nd minute.

The Bobcats moved to 6-5-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the NEC.

After sophomore forward Meagan McLoughlin broke a scoreless tie in the 19th minute, Curti headed home a loose ball, creating a 1-1 contest.  The offensive efforts came slightly more than four minutes apart, with freshman forward Furtuna Velaj assisting on QU's first score.

The league's leading scorer, Velaj, netted the game-winner in the 29th minute, then added an insurance marker in the 54th minute.  Both scoring strikes were unassisted, upping her total to 14 on the season.

McLoughlin would seal the match in the 61st minute with a shot from outside the 18-yard box.  Sophomore defender Kyla Miles picked-up the feeder.

FDU junior goalkeeper Megan MacKellar (/Brookwood) departed the game after 20 minutes, making two saves.  Freshman goalie Stephanie Tanzi (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) played until the final whistle, notching six stops.

Quinnipiac freshman goalkeeper Jillian Kelley made two saves to improve to 6-4-1 on the season.

The Knights travel to Central Connecticut State University at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 26 in New Britain, CT.
