A pair of goals from Liza Offreda (/Midland Park) (East Rutherford, NJ) and a three-assist performance from Zaida Castillo (/Bishop George AHR) (Plainfield, NJ) led the Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team (3-9-1, 2-3-0 NEC) to a 3-0 shutout over visiting Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium in Teaneck, NJ.
The Knights didn't waste any time getting on the board as Castillo got her foot on a cleared ball and directed it to Offredo, who dribbled around the goalkeeper before finding the back of the net.
Twenty-five minutes later, the same combination paired up to give the Knights a 2-0 lead as Castillo passed the ball behind her towards the Offreda, standing at the net, and she tapped it in.
In the second half, Castillo sent a cross to the right in the 67th minute and Jennifer Arceneaux (/Ralston Valley) (Arvada, CO) punched it in just under the crossbar to make the final score 3-0.
Kyla Clark (/Notre Dame/Univ. of Texas - El Paso) (Ottawa, Ontario) played all 90 minutes and made six saves to earn the shutout.
The Pioneers best chance to get on the board came on a corner kick attempt in the 20th minute of the first half, when a scramble in front of the net gave way to Allison Rojas' shot, but defender Alex White (/Lynnfield) (Lynnfield, MA) blocked the ball and ended the opportunity.
Sacred Heart held a slight edge in shots, 12-10, but the Knights took only three in the first half with two resulting in goals.
"We've been trying to set the goal to come out and play a full 90 minutes," said Head Coach Renee Montana. "Today we finally did it and feels good. We hope that we can take this momentum and carry it into the next game."
The Knights are back in action in Hamden, CT on October 20 when they face Quinnipiac at 3:00 p.m.
