Sept. 11, 2005

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, P - The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team (3-3) fell to Drexel, 2-0, in Philadelphia, PA on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Aleka Yiantsos (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) scored both Drexel goals.

Yiantsos put the Dragons on the board in the 10th minute when she took a feed from Stacy Blevins (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) to give Drexel a 1-0 lead. That would be the only goal of the half. The Knights outshot Drexel, 8-2, in the first 45 minutes, but Bond turned aside the only two that were on goal.

Fairleigh Dickinson was on the offensive for most of the second half, but was unable to find the back of the net. Bond made five of her seven saves in the second half. The Knights had a scoring chance negated when Drexel's Courtney Reid (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area), standing at the post, kicked out a shot by FDU's Christine McCartney that went by Bond with 25 minutes to play.

In the 85th minute, Yiantsos scored again to ice the contest. She picked up a high-bouncing ball that went past two Knights' defenders and broke in alone for her third goal of the season.

Courtney Smith, in goal for the Knights, made two saves in a losing cause for the Knights. FDU outcornered Drexel, 4-1, with all of those coming in the second half.

"Positives from the game came in the form of several players that give 100 percent every second they are on the field," said Head Coach Peter Gaglioti. "Courtney Smith, Marguerite Ferrell, Debra Flynn, Amanda Wheeler and Christine McCartney know what it takes to win and have been leading this team through determination and winning mentality."

The Knights are back in action on September 16 when they host Binghamton at 3:30 p.m. at University Stadium.
