Freshman Celine Maier clinched the win for the Knights in dramatic fashion, as FDU won its fourth overall and second-straight Northeast Conference Championship, earning the conference's automatic NCAA Tournament bid after defeating second seed Quinnipiac, 4-3.
The championship came down to the No.4 singles match, where Maier was battling with Michelle Dassa. After dropping the first set, 7-5, Maier rallied back to win the second set, 6-2. With the match tied at that point, all eyes were on the pair as they took to the court for a third set. There, Maier held strong, and took the match and the championship for the Knights, with a 6-3 win in set three.
In a 4-0 win over Sacred Heart in the semifinals, Maier was unchallenged at No. 4 in a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Post. In doubles, she and teammate Egzona Morina defeated Post and Katie Derienzo at No. 2, 8-3.
In a 4-0 win in the quarterfinals over Robert Morris, Maier won at No. 4, defeating Clariss Chen, 6-2, 6-0. In doubles, her and Morina clinched the doubles' point for FDU with an 8-3 victory over Samantha Alves and Chen.
