Biro and Ellis Record Ten Kills Each in 3-0 Loss at SFU

LORETTO, Pa.- The FDU Knights (13-11, 7-4 NEC) fell in three sets to Saint Francis (15-11, 9-2 NEC). With the final result, the NEC Championship will be held at the home of the Red Flash for the fourth consecutive year. For the third straight year, the Knights will be one of the final teams in the tournament, which begins next weekend. 
 
Set 1: 

Play began with a fast start from SFU, who jumped out to a 4-1 lead. Jamal Ellis logged FDU's first two kills, which were both set up by Baboloki Silwane. The kills, combined with three errors by the home squad, helped the Knights into just a three point deficit, 5-8. 

FDU countered the deficit with a four point run, bookended by Laydon Biro kills. the Knights led 9-8 before the Red Flash logged five of the next six points to take a 13-10 lead. The Knights battled back within one, after a Panagiotis Kourmouzos ace was sandwiched between two Ellis kills to make the score 14-15. 

Saint Francis remained out in front for the remainder of the set. Ellis drew the set even at 24-24, before SFU closed the dor on the opening set 26-24.  
 
Set 2: 

Two kills by Kourmouzos put the knights ahead 3-2 early. After exchanging points, Rayjan Suarez Palacios locked the teams at 6-6, before two quick points by the Red Flash put the home side ahead 8-6. 

The Red Flash remained in front, leading 16-14. Ellis and Dylan McFadden landed two kills to tie the game, while an attacking error gave the Knights a critical lead 17-16. SFU burst ahead, with the Knights playing from behind. three errors by the Red Flash put the Knights within one, 23-22, before the set ended in favor of SFU, 25-22. 
 
Set 3: 

Biro began the third set strong, landing two kills for an early 2-1 Knights lead. After a Suarez Palacios kill, the Red Flash went on a four-point-run to lead 9-4. A Brandon Pho kill and an SFU attacking error put FDU within three, before SFU utilized another run to extend their lead 15-8. 

The Red Flash held their advantage the remainder of the night, as they bested FDU 25-16 in the final set.
