BRONX, N.Y. - FDU (1-3) returned from California and got their first win of the season with a dominant second half on the road against Manhattan (0-3).
Nora Codianni led the way for the Knights, scoring six times and adding an assist on the afternoon.
The first quarter saw FDU jump out to a 4-2 advantage after Codianni and
Karly Dillabough each had a pair of goals. It was a solid display across the board as the defense held strong with several key stops to ensure the offense had more opportunities to capitalize. Freshman
Riley Schildt got the start between the pipes and made two early saves.
Following an opening Jasper goal to start the 2nd quarter, FDU extended the lead to 6-3 with goals by Codianni and
Julia Corry. Manhattan would turn the tide and went on a 4-0 run to end the half up 7-6. Senior goalie
Skylar Goodman, came into the game late in the 2nd quarter and would go on to stifle the Manhattan offense in the 3rd quarter.
One minute into the 3rd quarter Manhattan scored to give them a two-goal edge. However, the Knights, flipped the script and played fantastic lacrosse the rest of the way, outscoring the Jaspers 10-2 and dominating the draw controls.
Lindsay Evak picked up 7 draw controls in the second half to help the offense gather momentum and time of possession.
Brielle McInaw tied the game at 8 late in the 3rd quarter with her first of three second half goals. Codianni then cemented the lead with a goal as the clock was ticking down in the 3rd quarter.
In the fourth it was a balanced attack of
Riley Eaton, Codianni, Dillabough, and
Mia Devino with goals in the final frame to secure the first win over Manhattan in program history.
FDU is back on the road Saturday to face Siena (2-0) at 12pm. The game will be streamed on
Siena All-Access.
