BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – FDU women's bowling freshman
Caelyn Brown earned the season's first NEC Rookie of the Week Award on Wednesday afternoon. Brown was instrumental in FDU's championship triumph at the Bud Whitman Memorial.
Brown's first day of collegiate competition was a memorable one. She averaged 19.56 pins per frame and knocked down the fifth most pins of all bowlers in the field through five traditional matches. Her average was helped by a strike percentage of 54% and an average first ball total of 9.00 pins. FDU posted a perfect 5-0 record on day one of the event.
Brown and the Knights walked into championship Sunday with a chance to take home a trophy. In the baker format, Brown averaged 19.91 pins per frame. Her striking ability proved to be crucial as she converted 50% of her frames into strikes and was able to capitalize on 7/13 baker double opportunities. FDU recorded a 3-1 record on day two, including a victory in the championship over Delaware State.
Junior
Landry Johnson was also named an NEC Prime Performer. Johnson bowled in multiple positions in the lineup and was consistent throughout. The New Jersey native averaged over 19.0 pins per frame in both formats and struck 39 times over the course of the weekend.
FDU is back in action this weekend at the Golden Bear Invite in Sinking Springs, Pa. Competition begins on October 17.
