SYRACUSE, N.Y. – FDU women's basketball (17-4, 8-0) defeated Le Moyne ( ) 56-41 in a road contest on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights generated some early momentum off a dominant close to the first quarter. After trailing 5-2 early, FDU went on a 15-0 run across the final six minutes of the first quarter, taking a lead which they would not give up for the remainder of regulation.
Madlena Gerke was the engine behind the offense in the first quarter, scoring seven points on two threes in the quarter. Le Moyne would battle back in the second quarter, tightening the Knight lead to just seven points after some solid three-point shooting. When halftime came around, FDU led 28-18.
Le Moyne kept hanging around, cutting the game to just a four-point FDU lead early into the second half, as the threes continued to fall for the Dolphins. Then, the Knights turned the offense on once more. FDU went on a 13-0 run, extending their lead back to a comfortable double-digit margin. FDU controlled things from there on out, walking away with their eighth consecutive NEC victory in 2025-26.
- Madlena Gerke had an excellent day for the Knights, leading the way with 21 points.
- Gerke knocked down four triples in the win, as well as grabbing six boards and two steals.
- Kailee McDonald and Ava Renninger joined Gerke in double figures, each knocking down three triples.
- McDonald scored 11 points with two steals in the victory.
- Renninger scored ten points, while grabbing eight rebounds and recording five assists.
- As a team, the Knights knocked down 11 three-pointers.
- FDU and Le Moyne were dead even on rebounds, each recording 39 as a team.
FDU returns home for a re-match of the 2024-25 NEC Championship, as they host Stonehill on Thursday, January 29. Tip-off will come at 5 p.m, with coverage on ESPNU.
