HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - FDU Women's Soccer worked a 2-2 draw with Hofstra Thursday night at Captains Field. The Knights were powered by a pair of goals from freshmen
Allison Nase and
Alexa Castro in the contest.
"We played really well… a solid result against a good team," FDU Head Coach
Eric Teepe said.
FDU and Hofstra traded chances early in the match, with the Pride notching an early chance that was denied by an incredible double save by Knights Goalkeeper Rosemarie Leblanc to keep the match scoreless.
The Knights would find the first goal of the match when freshman
Alexa Castro pushed the ball past the Hofstra goalkeeper to give the Knights the 1-0 advantage in the 14th minute. The tally was good for Castro's first of her career.
FDU would find another goal as freshman
Allison Nase drove the ball from the middle of the box to extend the FDU lead to two goals with just two minutes to go in the opening half.
The Pride would cut the FDU lead in half with under a minute to go. At the end of the first half, the Knights held a 2-1 advantage over Hofstra.
"The freshmen come in, they give us minutes, they give us time, and they give us results, so I think it's been positive so far," Teepe added.
In a physical second half, the Knights were able to outshoot the Pride 5-4, but Hofstra found a late equalizer in the waning moments of the contest, scoring with just under three minutes to play.
Hofstra ended the match outshooting FDU by a total of 12-10. FDU goalkeeper Rosemarie Leblanc totaled five saves in the contest, which marks a new season high.
