TEANECK, N.J. - The FDU Knights (0-4-1, 0-0) dropped their 2025 home opener to Penn (3-0-1) by a score of 2-1 on Thursday night. It is the first home loss for FDU since 2023.
The game's first scoring opportunity belonged to Penn's Mallory Lucas. She found herself in space behind the FDU defenders, but had her shot denied by Knights goalkeeper
Rosemarie LeBlanc. A few moments later, the Knights counterattack produced a similar scoring opportunity for
Ana Salas. Her shot was also saved by the Penn keeper.
In the 31
st minute, Penn had a flurry of chances that were seemingly shut down by FDU. However, freshman Lauren Anderson rocketed a shot from well outside the box, and near the sideline, over the head of LeBlanc for the match's first goal.
Penn led 1-0 at half, despite being outshot by FDU 5-4.
The Quakers adder their insurance goal in the 60
th minute. A clever combination of passes left freshmen Lauren Stevens with a great look at net. She capitalized on the opportunity and buried her second goal of the season.
After Penn's second goal, a steady rain picked up steam at University Stadium. This coincided with the Knights being more aggressive in their efforts to push the ball up field.
In the 65
th minute, the Knights earned a free kick.
Camila Fuentes Gonzalez crossed a ball in that ended up on the foot of Allie Nase. The freshman slotted the ball past the Penn keeper to put the Knights on the board. This marked Nase's second goal of the season.
The Knights were unable to find an equalizer in the remainder of the match.
The Knights are back home this Sunday, September 6, against Fordham. The match is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff and will air live on NEC Front Row.
