FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield Stags (5-1) handed the FDU Knights (0-3-1) a 5-0 loss in a non-conference women's soccer matchup. The contest was the last in an opening string of four away games to start the 2025 campaign for FDU.
Fairfield fired three shots away early before Marina Burzaco recorded the first for the Knights.
A Fairfield goal in the 36th minute separated these teams at the intermission. The Knights and goalkeeper Laia Oller Ramos had an advantage in saves 4-0, while the Stags led in shots 9-4.
The Knights' positive play continued into the second half with an early save from Oller Ramos. Fairfield however, scored their second goal to take the momentum away from the visitors with a goal just inside the 58th minute.
"I thought we were by far the better team for the first fifty-five minutes, but we were not capitalizing on our chances and were allowing simple plays to come back and bite us," head coach Eric Teepe said. "I think we responded well to the first goal, it's just that we shouldn't be down 1-0 at halftime in this game and I think the second goal affected us in a different way."
Ramos recorded six saves on 23 shots faced, while the FDU offense fired off nine shots with two of them on target. Coming off the bench, Alexa Castro fired off three shots and Madeline Marricco sent a pair of scoring attempts towards the goal.
The Knights open up their home schedule vs. Penn on Thursday, September 4, at 6 p.m.
