AMHERST, N.Y. – FDU men's volleyball (8-10, 1-4) dropped a match to Daemen (10-10, 1-2) three sets to one on Saturday night.
The Knights started off solid, picking up a 25-21 victory in the first set. Things were tight between the Knights and Wildcats in the opening frame, but the Knights were able to pull away late.
Dylan McFadden picked up back-to-back kills to win the set and give FDU an early 1-0 lead.
Things didn't break the Knights way in sets two or three. Slow starts by FDU in each set doomed them, and the Knights found themselves trailing two sets to one heading into a potentially decisive set number four.
The fourth frame saw the Knights stay competitive early. FDU held an early 8-7 lead behind two early kills from
Lorenzo Bonomo. The tide shifted as both teams got late into the set however. Daemen kicked things into an extra gear, and closed the fourth set on an 11-2 run. The Wildcats would run away with a 25-14 victory in the final set to pick up the win.
Jamal Ellis Carballo led the way for the Knights with nine kills in the loss. Ellis also picked up two service aces, and led the team with nine digs.
FDU and Daemen will rematch on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
