HACKENSACK, N.J. - Saint Francis U (10-12, 4-0) took the second match against FDU (8-9, 1-3) in three sets on Saturday afternoon at the Bogota Savings Bank Center.
SFU had a dominant first set, taking a solid lead very quickly. The Red Flash tallied seven team blocks and earned a .412 hitting percentage to help secure the win this set. Their strong presence at the net ultimately shut down the Knights' attack, winning 25-14.
FDU proved to be unwilling to go out without a fight, playing a much more dynamic set 2 and keeping the score close throughout. Not only was the knights offense much more effective, but their defense was as well earning 9nine digs. At the end of the set the Flashes attack was too powerful leading them to take it, 25-21.
The third set was yet another battle between the Knights and the Red Flash. Although SFU was able to keep the lead for most of the set, FDU trailed close behind even taking a short lead during the last few points. The Knights improved again in this set, increasing their side out percentage by nearly 20 points compared to the first two sets and achieving 15 digs, 5 of which can be credited to
Jose Angarita. However, SFU's consistency on offense and defense was too assertive, winning the set 25-22.
Jamal Ellis Carballo led the home side in kills with seven. Saint Francis U committed 20 service errors, but were able to overcome the service performance with strong defense as they had 20 blocks to just four for FDU.
