HACKENSACK, N.J. - The FDU Knights wrapped up their regular season in dominant fashion, securing three victories in a competitive day on the strip. They took on CCNY, Yeshiva, Drew, Lafayette, and Hunter.
Round 1:
FDU came out strong against CCNY, setting the tone for the day. The epee squad was flawless, sweeping all nine bouts for a clean sheet. In sabre,
Zoe Rupp notched two wins, while
Gabriella Como led the foil squad with three victories, supported by
Layla Stevenson and
Dominique Greaux-Gist with two wins each. FDU would win the match 20-7.
Round 2:
Momentum carried into the second round against Yeshiva, where Rupp once again led the sabre squad with a perfect 3-0 performance, powering a 7-2 squad victory. Epee continued to shine, with
Nicole Gavrilko and
Jade Burnett each going 3-0. Meanwhile, the foil squad dominated with an 8-1 record. FDU would win the match 23-4.
Round 3:
Drew proved to be a tough opponent in the third round. Como picked up two wins in foil, with Greaux-Gist adding another. Rupp kept her momentum going with a sabre victory, while the epee squad battled hard, finishing 5-4 behind another strong showing from Gavrilko, who earned three wins. Drew would win the match 18-9.
Round 4:
FDU looked to bounce back against Lafayette but faced stiff resistance. The foil squad went 2-7, and sabre followed with a 3-6 mark. However, Gavrilko remained unstoppable in epee, posting a perfect 3-0 record to keep the Knights in contention. Lafayette would win the match 16-11.
Round 5:
The Knights closed out the day in dramatic fashion against Hunter. Greaux-Gist led the foil squad with two crucial wins, while
Sherleen Yunes added two victories in epee. Gavrilko continued her stellar performance, securing her second 3-0 sweep of the day, helping epee to a 6-3 advantage. Rupp capped off her impressive outing with two more sabre wins, clinching a thrilling 14-13 victory for FDU.
The Knights will now shift their focus to postseason competition with NCAA Women's Fencing Regionals. The competiition will be held at Drew University on March 8.
